The Grand Junction Symphony Orchestra strives to provide educational experiences for striving young musicians and artists throughout the Grand Valley. The more notable educational programs the Symphony provides are the Springfest, Children’s Concerts, and the annual Young Artist Competition.

During the spring of each year, small ensembles of Symphony musicians perform for elementary school students through the Springfest program. Last year alone, the program reached about 11,000 students from 21 schools in Mesa County. The Children’s Concerts provide students the opportunity to enjoy an interactive experience with orchestra musicians.

The Young Artist Competition, sponsored by the Grand Junction Symphony Orchestra and the Grand Junction Symphony Guild, gives students the chance to perform as soloists with an orchestra. Cash prizes are awarded to the winner and runners-up of the competition, and the students are featured as guest artists with the Grand Junction Symphony Orchestra. Gabriel Mientka, winner of the 2006 Young Artist Competition, performed at the April 2007 concerts. Emilee Bradley, winner of the 2007 Young Artist Competition, will be the featured piano soloist on March 4, 2007 in “Musique Française Magnifique.”
