The Endowment

The Endowment has grown to approximately $500,000. Gifts given to the Foundation are self-perpetuating, meaning that only the investment income is used to support Symphony programs.

The next goal for the Foundation is to reach an endowment size of $1,000,000. This size of an endowment will enable the Foundation to provide substantial annual support to the Grand Junction Symphony Orchestra each year, while continuing to secure the future of the symphony and its operation.

Our Rich History

In November 1984, Benerita Urruty walked into the symphony office with $10,000 in cash for seed money for a possible future performing arts center. The donation was placed into a certificate of deposit and marked the beginning of an endowment for the Grand Junction Symphony. Other contributions to the trust followed, and in 2004, a 501(c) 3 corporation was formed to create the Grand Junction Symphony Foundation.

The original $10,000, earmarked as the Urruty Fund, paid for a substantial portion of the Master Plan for the historic Avalon Theatre. In partnership with the City of Grand Junction and the Downtown Development Authority, the symphony continues work on plans to make the Avalon Theatre its new home.
